Security measures around Bangabhaban have been enhanced

Protests demanding the resignation of President Mohammad Shahabuddin are ongoing, leading to increased security around Bangabhaban, including the installation of barbed wire.

On Thursday (October 24), demonstrators gathered sporadically for the third day. In addition to the army and BGB, RAB and APBN are on alert, with strict security barriers and a three-tiered barbed wire fence being erected in front of Bangabhaban to prevent any incidents.

The atmosphere remains tense after continuous protests on Tuesday. On Wednesday (October 23), Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mohammad Nahid Islam stated that there is no need for protests either at Bangabhaban or elsewhere, asserting that the decision regarding the president's tenure is a political one, not a legal or constitutional matter.

When asked about a meeting with Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed regarding the president's resignation, legal advisor Asif Nazrul avoided the question. He was accompanied by Housing Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan and Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam.

On Tuesday (October 22), Nazrul and Nahid Islam held a closed-door meeting with the Chief Justice, discussing the resignation and potential successors for over half an hour.

The interim government’s Chief Advisor's press wing reported that no decision has yet been made about President Shahabuddin's resignation. During a press briefing outside the Jamuna State Guest House, press secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed this.

After the mass uprising led by the anti-discrimination student movement, Sheikh Hasina was ousted on August 5. That night, President Shahabuddin announced he accepted Hasina's resignation, though he later stated he has not received any documented proof of it.

Following this revelation, protest leaders intensified their demands. Starting at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, a crowd assembled outside Bangabhaban, calling for the president’s resignation.

By 8 PM, law enforcement had maintained control, but some protesters attempted to breach security barriers. After their efforts failed, police used batons and sound grenades to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries, including two gunshot wounds—one to a student. The injured were transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
