Indian High Commissioner Speaks Out on the Sheikh Hasina Issue

The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, has confirmed that there have been no discussions about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin. This statement followed a meeting on October 20 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

When asked about discussions concerning Sheikh Hasina, Verma clarified that no specific talks had taken place. Instead, the focus was on strengthening relations with the interim government and advancing collaborative efforts.

The International Crimes Tribunal recently issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina, requiring her appearance before the tribunal by November 18.

At a press conference last Thursday, Foreign Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain mentioned that the interim government would take necessary measures to facilitate Sheikh Hasina's return to the country.

Regarding his meeting with the Foreign Secretary, Verma described it as routine and part of ongoing discussions about bilateral relations, where they addressed security and development issues. He highlighted the interdependence of India and Bangladesh and stressed the importance of enhancing this mutual reliance.

On the joint advisory council between the two countries, the High Commissioner expressed the intent to establish a Framework of Cooperation (FOC) soon.
